Play turn - what happens?
This button is the most important in the entire game. Be sure you don't click it by mistake! When you click the hourglass icon, you play one turn of those available to you at the moment. You can see your current number of turns on the bar on top of game screen (see picture). It is displayed as e.g. 0/8, which means you have played since last recalculation 0 turns, and you had 8 available after the recalculation. When both numbers are the same (like 8/8), you have played all available turns.
Number of turns depends on your race, and on what type of league (standard, action) are you currently playing. In standard leagues you receive the whole daily amount of turns at midnight, in action leagues you receive some part of it every 15 minutes.

How many turns can I have?
Number of turns per day depends on your race, but it can be increased by certain (very expensive) buildings. If you don't play your turns today, they will be carried over to the next day.
Caution! Unused turns can be accumulated only to the maximum of 3x daily amount. Anything over that amount will be lost!
What happens when I play a turn
one turn is subtracted from those available
current income of gold is added to treasury (or taken from it if income is negative!) - see Headquarters
current income of mana is added to treasury - see Headquarters
- in case your treasury is in debt (negative numbers), part of your soldiers may desert - see Army
- population increases in lands with empty houses - see Houses
What increases number of turns?
Time Machine - this building adds one turn every day (a fraction of it in action leagues)
Time Gate - this building adds two turns every day (a fraction of it in action leagues)
- some services that can be purchased for DE-credits:
Lesser Time spell - you receive one turn (a fraction of it in action leagues)
Greater Time spell - you receive two turns (a fraction of it in action leagues)
Great Time spell - you receive one additional turn per day for one month (a fraction of it in action leagues)
