FAQ - How to start

Here you can find the answers to most frequent questions of beginners.

Where is my land?

The player must register into a league to start playing. Click Enter on the homepage to view what leagues are available for registration.
After you register and enter the game, you will see a small map of world with arrow pointing to your land. Click the arrow to enlarge the map of that section. Your land is marked by a yellow rectangle, and its flag is animated.
Here is the basic description of controls.

Simplified guide to basic steps

  1. build Granary, it costs 1000 gold (in Buidings menu)
  2. play all your turns (click the hourglass icon repeatedly)
  3. declare war on some adjacent land (in Treaties menu) - choose War and click Send
  4. recruit as many soldiers as you can - in Army window enter number of soldiers and click Recruit
  5. send soldiers to attack (switch to Attack tab of Army window), choose land and click "Send army" button

When do I get new turns, when will attacks be evaluated?

At the end of every game day all events (attacks, spells and random events) are evaluated and players receive new turns. This is called "recalculation".
In standard leagues (e.g. T1, 2A, 3B, ...) recalculation runs at midnight.
In action leagues (e.g. 2Aa, 3Aa, 3Ba, ...) recalculation runs every 15 minutes during the playing time of league (not 24 hours a day!). So you receive new turns every 15 minutes, but it is only a certain part of the amount you get in standard leagues.
All things that happen when you play a turn are described in detail here: Play turn - what happens?

How to earn gold and mana ?

All your lands pay gold and mana into your treasury each turn. Gold, mana and number of turns are displayed on the infobar on top of the map window.
First thing to do in any land is to build Granary, so that the population increases quickly. Population of the land is paying taxes - the more people you have in your lands, the more gold you receive. Recruited soldiers don't pay taxes, on the contrary, you pay their upkeep each turn, which means recruiting a large army can have large impact on your economy. Recruit army after you have played all turns for the day.

Income of gold is influenced by: (+) taxes from population, trade treaties, buildings (mines, Workshop), land bonuses; (-) army upkeep.

Income of mana is influenced by: (+) magical units, magic treaties, buildings (towers, Sacred Well, Sacred Tree), land bonuses.

Both gold and mana income is influenced by current weather. Weather affects only income of gold from population, and of mana from magical units - not from buildings!

Why should I buy houses?

Whenever you play a turn, some new inhabitants are born in your lands - but only if there are free houses. Population pays taxes, which is your main income of gold, therefore you need as many people as possible.
Therefore always make sure you have a Granary and free houses in all your lands before you play any turns (if you can afford it, of course - often you can't). The more people there are in the land, the quicker population growth is.
Detailed info about economy is here: Houses and land income

Why can't I recruit soldiers?

Soldiers are recruited from population of the land. If there aren't enough inhabitants in the land, you can't recruit army. In the Army window you always see how many soldiers you can currently recruit ("For recruitment") and how much gold and/or mana you have to pay when recruiting one soldier of each type. If you can't recruit soldiers, it means you either don't have the resources, or there is no free population from which you could recruit.
For more detailed info see: Army

How do I use mana?

Mana is used when casting any spells, recruiting some soldiers and building some buildings.
You don't need much mana in the beginning. Later you will need more, so you should build Sacred Well as soon as you have some free gold (buy Granaries and calculate gold needed for recruiting soldiers and maybe a few houses first!). Sacred Wells will start your mana production, so that you can afford to buy magical units, which will be the main generator of mana later on. Magical unit is the 3rd in Army window.
Every magical unit generates 1 mana each turn (at 100% weather for mana!) and increases your spell power. In later stages of the game magic becomes dominant, so if you plan to succeed, you need to have lots of magical units and cast spells both on you and your competitors.

Communication with players

Always communicate with players that have their lands close to your lands. You can negotiate peace with them, cooperate or even join their alliance. If you click the name of overlord in Land Info window, it will open Mail with address of that player already entered, so all you have to do is write your message and click Send. It is advantageous to negotiate Trade treaties with adjacent lands - unless you want to attack them, then you should declare war.
Lands without flag are unoccupied and you should try to capture them (you can't have trade treaties with unoccupied lands, only with those ruled by human players).

Where can I find what happened ?

All events that happened during the recalculation (attacks, spells, random events) and affect you or one of your lands can be found in Reports. Here you can see who attacked you, whether your attacks and spells succeeded or not, what is current weather etc. You should check Reports after every recalculation.

Treaties and declaration of war

Each of your lands can have one treaty with each adjacent land. "War" is considered to be one of available treaties, but is the only one that does not require signature of both sides.
You should declare war on land you want to attack. Without declaration of war, your attack will be by 30% lower.
For more detailed info, see Treaties.

Attack results

You will capture the the land, if attack strength is greater than defense of the land. Land can be defended by soldiers, defensive buildings and population. Unoccupied lands don't ever build anything (except houses), so these lands have no defensive buildings.
Number of soldiers in a land is limited by number of houses. If you capture a land and there are less houses than your remaining soldiers, "homeless" soldiers will return into the land from which the attack was sent.
