Treaties

Each land can negotiate one treaty with each adjacent land. If both lands belong to you, it is your decision, which of the available treaties you want to set. If the other land belongs to some other player, they may have different ideas about cooperation and refuse your proposal. Both players must agree before the treaty starts working (except for War, of course). If the other land is neutral (unoccupied), you can only declare War - neutral lands do not respond to your offers.
If you want to cancel a treaty, it can be done one-sided : choose "Cancel" or "War". But remember that you can't cancel war - once war has been declared, it requires both sides to end it!

What treaty should I set?

Declare war to any lands you want to attack, otherwise you will attack with 30% penalty to attack strength. If you are defending your lands against enemy attacks, use "Alliance" - they will share part of the troops in them. Your lands that are not threatened by enemies should have "Trade" treaties, that will increase your income of gold. If you are not sure of the plans of your neighbor, you can offer him treaty "Peace", but remember it only affects those lands that have signed this treaty. He can still attack from some other land.

When is treaty valid?

If there was no treaty between the two lands before (i.e. the box was empty, not containing "No treaty" - that would mean a treaty was already cancelled), then the first negotiated treaty is effective immediately. If you change existing treaty (or even from "No treaty"!), the original treaty is still valid until recalculation (although it is not visible anymore). Only after the recalculation the new treaty will be valid. The only exception to this rule is Alliance, which is immediately valid.

Description of treaties

  • War
If you want to attack adjacent land, it is best to declare war first. If you don't declare war, strength of your attack will be by 30% lower!
  • Trade
Increases income of gold to both lands connected by this treaty (by 18% if both have the same number of inhabitants, otherwise the land with less inhabitants gets higher bonus and vice versa). The income for trade treaty result calculation is just the income from population, not from buildings or other trade treaties.
  • Magic
Increases mana income of both lands. Both lands receive as a bonus 20% of mana income of the other land. Only mana income from units is taken into account, not from buildings and other magic treaties. If there are no magical units in one of the lands, or they are moving, the other land will have nothing from magic treaty!
  • Alliance
Lands help each other in defense against attacks. 30% of defensive army strength of the land will be added to defense of the other land. Bonus is calculated only from raw defense of soldiers, not that of buildings! Alliance is valid immediately.
  • Peace
This treaty has no economical benefits, the only effect is, that it is impossible for these two lands to attack each other. Game will not allow to send such attack, and not even use this land as a transfer point of attack through Free pass treaty. But be careful - as any other treaty, it only becomes valid on next day! It is possible to send attack, then offer Peace, and even if the other side accepts it at once, the attack will still be executed (and no, it isn't violation of Game Codex).
  • Free pass
Increases the number of lands that can be attacked from your land. Your army can use this treaty to attack a land that is adjacent to the other land, instead of just those adjacent to the attacking land. Can be also used for quicker movement of units through your lands. This treaty can't be used in chain during one movement, you can always skip only 1 land. You can't declare war on distant lands, so the attack through Free pass is always with 30% penalty (unless you are Orc and have Underground Tunnels built in the land).
  • No treaty
This is the only way to cancel treaty that you don't want to continue, that does not require consent of the other side. War can NOT be cancelled, it has to be replaced by some other treaty, signed by both sides! When you set "No treaty", currently active treaty will still be valid for the rest of this day.
