Game Codex and Council of Elders (CoE)

As every game, Dark Elf has a set of rules that the players must follow. These rules are written in a so-called Game Codex, which states what is allowed and what isn't. If the Council of Elders find the player guilty of breaking these rules, they have a right to decide about penalty, from "-" to the player (for minor offences) up to blocking the account for some time or deleting it altogether.

Vital points from Game Codex

  • Your nick may not contain obscene or otherwise improper words.
  • One player may not register several overlords into one league.
  • Treaties negotiated between players by in-game mail are considered part of the game and are binding.
  • Violation of such treaties will be considered violation of rules and may be punished severely!
  • Attack on a land with which there is some in-game treaty (trade, magical) is allowed.
Every player is required to read the Game Codex and abide by the rules set therein!
As an example of diplomacy, this is how you could offer peace treaty to some other player by mail:

I propose peace - no attacks, no red magic, no free passes to third party - with 26 hours notice.

This is the most widely used treaty in DE, although generally you can agree on anything in a treaty. Let's look at the individual parts and their meaning.
  • I propose peace – selfexplanatory
  • no attacks – means no attacks at all, includes pillaging and ransacking
  • no red magic – protects against harmful spells (spell name has red colour - Hailstorm, Curse, stealing spells, various demons etc.); if you write "no magic", it includes also beneficial spells
  • no free passes to third party – party to a treaty may not give Free Pass treaty to another player, if that player could use it to attack land of the other peace treaty partner
  • 26 hours notice - if one of the parties to a treaty wants to cancel the treaty, it must be done in advance. Hours are counted backwards from the time of recalculation when your attack will be processed, so if you want to send an attack tomorrow, you must mail the notice today before 22:00 (of game time, not your local time if it is different!), otherwise your attack would be violation of peace treaty! Notice time can be set as you agree, but most often it is either 26 or 28 hours.

What is Council of Elders (CoE)?

CoE is a group of 7 people, elected by players, who watch over the game and make sure that game rules of Dark Elf are followed. Their main task is to decide arguments and disputes of players concerning game rules and their possible violation - they are similar to judges of a court in real life. The Council also decides about changes to Game Codex, as the game evolves and new situations appear.

Structure of CoE

Council of Elders is elected once a year in September, by all players of Dark Elf. Players choose from several candidates, seven of them who receive most votes will become Council members. Council members choose which of them will be a Chief. Cheif is the head of Council, controls how it works and gives individual tasks to Council members.

When should I contact Council of Elders?

  • in case of any violation od Game Codex (attack disregarding peace treaty, land swapping etc.). Council will examine these situations, decide whether the claim is legitimate, and take steps to correct situation
  • if I have some substantial and well-founded suggestions to Game Codex
  • if I have questions concerning Game Codex or other rules
