Short introduction

About the game

Dark Elf is multiplayer turn-based strategy game programmed in Czech Republic. Its development started in 2001. The game is played in a medieval or rather fantasy setting, based freely on the book and film "Lord of the Rings". Dark Elf has unique large map, where you can see your lands as well as those of your opponents, their fortresses, heroes and magetowers.
After you register into a league, you start with a bunch of soldiers in an undeveloped land. You develop your land, capture new lands, build armies, fight with other players and cast spells on them. Playing is for free, but you can purchase services that will make playing easier (less arduous) or that will give you a minor advantage.

Game objective

Your first objective in DE game of any type is to capture as many lands as possible. Your final objective depends on the league you are playing, but most often it is "Capture the land of Dark Elf". You couldn't do that alone, so you can either join an existing alliance, or if you are experienced enough, start your own. You can also have your own objectives, like gaining experience for your hero or finding artifacts in crypts.

Leagues - Dark Elf worlds

Dark Elf is divided into many absolutely independent worlds (leagues), each of them has a separate map. The map is always the same, it is just cloned so that all players can find some place to play. Leagues can have various difficulty and various game objectives, both are listed in description of the league. When registering, you choose league and map area, and system will place you into a random land in the selected area, along with a weak hero for beginners. Later you can purchase a better hero, or even several, of which you can always choose only one when registering into a league.

Game basics

Every day you receive certain number of turns, which is based on the race you chose when registering. Whenever you play a turn, you receive some gold and mana, and some of the empty houses get filled by inhabitants. For gold, you can buy houses or buildings, or recruit army. The army also has some upkeep costs that are automatically subtracted from your income each turn. You send the army to attack adjacent land and wait until spells and attacks are processed (at midnight in standard leagues, every 15 minutes in action leagues). Then you will see how successful were your attacks and spells, and you will receive more turns. Population of all your lands is paying you taxes which are the main source of your income, so you should try to increase population and send some attacks again. And so on... until the league ends - training leagues are here to get acquainted with basics, have no objective and end after a week; other leagues end when someone has reached the objective.

Races - nations of Dark Elf

Dark Elf has 11 races with unique characteristics - e.g. Elves, Men, Dwarves, Orcs. Races differ in number of turns per day, strength, cost and upkeep of their units and starting conditions (amount of gold and mana to start with). Every race has a special building and special spell, not available to other races. Player chooses race when registering into a league, so you can play with the same account for any race you wish and change them with each registration.
Most suitable for beginners are Uruk-Hai or Ents, you can also try Dark Elves or Barbarians. Other races require some experience and are not recommended for beginners.
